Pdf Summary
Frailty is a condition characterized by reduced reserves and increased vulnerability to stress, which can have negative health outcomes in older adults. Lung cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, is particularly prevalent in older adults with comorbidities, making them more susceptible to frailty. The objective of this study was to review the existing literature and conduct a meta-analysis to investigate the impact of frailty on lung cancer patients.

The researchers conducted a systematic literature search using various databases and included studies that assessed frailty in lung cancer patients. The primary outcome of interest was overall survival. They performed a meta-analysis using a random-effects model to calculate pooled effects and used statistical software for analysis.

The analysis included 18 studies with a total of 5,606 patients. The findings showed that the prevalence of frailty among lung cancer patients was estimated to be 41.2%. Moreover, frail lung cancer patients had a significantly higher risk of death compared to non-frail patients, with an adjusted hazard ratio of 1.66.

Based on these results, the study concludes that frailty has a significant impact on the survival of lung cancer patients. Therefore, it is important to identify and address frailty in clinical practice. Future research should focus on developing interventions to improve outcomes for frail lung cancer patients.

In summary, this systematic review and meta-analysis highlight the importance of considering frailty in the management of lung cancer, as it can have a detrimental effect on patient survival. Identifying and addressing frailty should be a priority in clinical practice, and further research is needed to explore interventions that can enhance outcomes for frail lung cancer patients.
