Pdf Summary
A study conducted by Zhen-Bin Qiu et al. aimed to investigate the specific dynamic changes in the transcriptome of early-stage lung adenocarcinoma (es-LUAD) in relation to the consolidation tumor ratio (CTR). The researchers collected fresh tumor tissues from 195 patients with es-LUAD for mRNA sequencing. They also analyzed the TCGA-LUAD mRNA dataset for further analysis.

The results revealed that as the CTR increased, there were 1716 upregulated and 1207 downregulated genes identified. Among them, 615 upregulated genes and 393 downregulated genes were found to be CTR-specific when compared to histology subtypes, N status, and M status.

The researchers conducted gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis and found that RNA metabolic-related pathways were upregulated with the increase in CTR, while cell-cell adhesion-related pathways were downregulated. Additionally, the upregulated genes in higher CTR es-LUAD were found to be associated with tumor aggression, metastasis, and proliferation.

The study concluded that with the increase in CTR, more genes related to tumor aggression were upregulated, indicating a higher likelihood of metastasis and proliferation in tumor cells within higher CTR lesions. These findings further support the clinical relevance of using CTR for distinguishing tumor invasiveness at the transcriptome level.

The study was supported by various funding sources, including the National Science Foundation of China and the Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research Foundation.
