Pdf Summary
This study aimed to investigate the expression of PD-1 and IL-10R on T cells in pleural effusions and compare the differences between malignant and benign effusions. The study included 51 patients with either malignant or benign effusions and divided them into three groups. The results showed that in cytologically confirmed malignant effusions, there was a significantly lower expression of PD-1IL-10-RCD8 and a significantly higher expression of PD-1-IL-10-R-CD8 T lymphocytes compared to benign effusions. However, there were no significant differences between group 2 (benign effusion in patients with malignant disease) and group 3 (benign effusion in benign disease).

These findings suggest that the frequency of CD8 T cells expressing PD-1 and IL-10R is significantly lower in malignant pleural effusions, regardless of the underlying disease. This indicates the development of an immune-privileged microenvironment in tumor progression. The study adds to the understanding of immune evasion mechanisms in tumors and highlights the potential significance of PD-1 and IL-10R in pleural effusions. Further research is needed to explore the implications of these findings and their potential application in targeted therapies.
