Pdf Summary
A study presented at the WCLC 2023 conference analyzed the association between ACTB methylation in whole blood and lung cancer. The study included 845 lung cancer patients, 153 age- and gender-matched benign patients, and 1009 healthy controls. The ACTB methylation was assessed using mass spectrometry.

The results showed that ACTB methylation was significantly associated with lung cancer, with increased methylation in certain CpG sites being associated with higher odds of lung cancer. This association was particularly strong in early-stage lung cancer. It was also found that ACTB methylation was more common in subjects over 55 years of age and in males.

Furthermore, the study found that patients with larger tumor size, lymph node involvement, and stage II-IV lung cancer had significantly higher methylation levels.

The researchers concluded that peripheral blood ACTB methylation is significantly associated with early-stage lung cancer. This suggests that it could potentially be used as a biomarker for the early detection of lung cancer.
