A systematic review by the EORTC Lung Cancer Group aimed to establish a uniform definition of resectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Stage III NSCLC is a diverse disease, and the therapeutic landscape is evolving. Surgery plays a significant role, but there is currently no clear definition of what constitutes resectable NSCLC. The review analyzed studies published between 2005 and 2022 that provided data or definitions on resectability according to the 7th/8th TNM classification. The included studies were mostly retrospective series, with some prospective studies, guidelines, surveys, and cohort studies. Most of the studies were published between 2018 and 2022.<br /><br />The results showed that there is no consensus definition of resectable stage III NSCLC in the literature. The lack of consensus indicates the need for an urgently required uniform definition. The EORTC Lung Cancer Group's initiative aims to establish a common language regarding resectable stage III NSCLC. The poster presenting these findings was presented during the World Conference on Lung Cancer on September 10, 2023.<br /><br />This study highlights the importance of reaching a consensus on the definition of resectable stage III NSCLC to guide clinical decision-making and treatment strategies. A uniform definition would provide clarity and standardization in the field. Further research and collaboration are necessary to establish this definition and improve outcomes for patients with stage III NSCLC.
