Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to investigate the incidence of cachexia in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its impact on quality of life (QOL) and efficacy of first-line systemic therapy. The study included 887 patients with previously-untreated advanced NSCLC and found that approximately one-third of patients met the criteria for cachexia. The study found no significant difference in QOL related to appetite between the different cohorts, but there was a trend towards greater improvement in Cohort 2 compared to Cohort 1 and Cohort 3. There was also no significant difference in progression-free survival and overall survival between the cohorts, but there was a trend towards better progression-free survival in Cohort 2. The study concluded that cachexia is common in advanced NSCLC and further research is needed to understand its impact and develop interventions to improve outcomes. The study also mentioned an ongoing observational study to evaluate the efficacy of anamorelin on first-line systemic therapy in NSCLC patients with cachexia.
