Pdf Summary
Pain management is a common concern for lung cancer patients, but there is no standardized approach in place. Most patients traditionally receive follow-up care in hospital outpatient clinics focused on monitoring the progression of the disease. Ayurveda therapy is highly preferred by Asian cancer patients, as cultural, psychological, spiritual, and social factors influence their quality of life.

There is a lack of specialized pain care teams in many institutions, and pain assessment for cancer patients often involves a comprehensive history and physical examination. Opioid analgesics are the most effective agents for managing lung cancer pain, although a variety of non-opioid medications from different classes may also be used.

Combining chemotherapy with Ayurveda and spirituality, as well as psycho-social support, shows promise in managing pain. Spiritual well-being is thought to prevent end-of-life despair. The effects of spiritual and psycho-social community support should be further investigated.

In a survey, 92% of patients preferred Asian Ayurveda therapy over allopathic medicine. Eighty participants in the survey found lung cancer-related pain distressing and challenging to manage. While available therapies can provide relief, comprehensive assessment and knowledge of analgesic agents are crucial. Coordinating palliative care teams with counselors and psycho-therapists may lead to better results in improving quality of life.

Overall, there is a need for a uniform approach to managing pain in lung cancer patients. Ayurveda therapy, combined with spirituality and support, can provide hope and improvement in pain management. Future research should explore the benefits of integrating these therapies with traditional healthcare methods.
