Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to determine if patients' experience with robotic thoracic surgery (RTS) influenced their willingness to pay for it. The study included 184 eligible RTS patients, of which 98.37% were enrolled and 98.34% completed the survey.

The results showed that for Canadian patients undergoing RTS, firsthand experience with the surgery was a significant factor in increasing their willingness to pay a premium out-of-pocket to access the operation.

The demographics and socioeconomic status of the respondents were also analyzed. The median age at the time of surgery was 68 years, and 57.3% of the respondents were female. The majority of respondents (93.26%) identified as Caucasian, and 43.82% had a postsecondary education.

In terms of income, 71.35% of respondents had an annual income of $60,000 or less. As for insurance coverage, 39.89% of respondents had both government insurance (OHIP) and private insurance.

The survey also assessed the overall experience of the respondents with RTS on a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (excellent). The majority of respondents (51%) rated their overall experience as 8 out of 10.

The study found a significant increase in respondents' willingness to contribute financially after undergoing RTS. Before the surgery, 7.4% of respondents were willing to contribute $2,000 or more, compared to 81.1% after the surgery.

The study also evaluated the postoperative experiences of the respondents. Overall, there was a high level of satisfaction with the postoperative experience in the hospital and after discharge.

The study suggests that patients' firsthand experience with RTS influences their willingness to pay for it. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the factors influencing patients' decisions and preferences regarding medical procedures.
