Trialing Health has developed an app and web-based platform called Trialing that aims to increase access to clinical trials for lung cancer patients in Spain. The platform, designed by oncologists, uses artificial intelligence to provide up-to-date information on clinical trials and allows healthcare professionals to directly refer patients. In 2022, 1047 oncologists registered on Trialing, with lung cancer being the area of interest for 52% of them. The platform facilitated 681 patient referrals to clinical trials, with 21% of them being for lung cancer patients. Of these referrals, 16% were for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) trials and 5% were for small cell lung cancer (SCLC) trials. Most of the patients referred had metastatic disease. Notably, 38% of NSCLC patients and 59% of SCLC patients were referred to phase 1 clinical trials. Among the NSCLC referrals, 50% were for clinical trials that included at least one biomarker as an inclusion criterion. The Trialing platform was found to be efficient, with users taking only 60 seconds to find a clinical trial and receiving centers confirming receipt of referral requests in less than 20 hours. Overall, Trialing has proven to be a useful tool for oncologists in Spain, facilitating patient referrals to clinical trials and targeting patients with metastatic NSCLC, particularly those with molecularly driven NSCLC. Additionally, it was observed that patients with SCLC are often referred to early phase trials.
