Pdf Summary
This text presents preliminary results from a study aimed at constructing and validating a Scale of Therapeutic Adherence to Pulmonary Rehabilitation (STA-PR-NSCLC) for Mexican patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) is recognized as an effective intervention that enhances lung function, alleviates physical symptoms, and improves the quality of life for patients. For PR programs to be successful, therapeutic adherence (TA) is crucial. The study primarily focuses on assessing the psychometric properties of this newly developed scale for patients currently undergoing a PR program.

Key findings highlighted from exploratory factor analysis suggest that the STA-PR-NSCLC is both a valid and reliable tool, suitable for clinical and research purposes concerning Mexican patients with NSCLC. This makes the tool beneficial for evaluating and encouraging adherence to PR among these patients, ultimately aiming to optimize treatment outcomes.

Methodologically, the study employed a prospective, non-experimental design, utilizing a non-probabilistic convenience sample. Participants' self-perception of therapeutic adherence was assessed, with responses categorized into ‘Really Low,’ ‘Low,’ ‘Regular,’ and ‘High’ adherence levels. The majority (74%) reported a high level of adherence, indicating positive engagement with PR programs.

These findings are intended to contribute to the body of research focused on enhancing therapeutic adherence in lung cancer treatment. Additionally, the study acknowledges previous literature examining the impacts of COVID-19 on cancer patients, which underscores the ongoing challenges and adaptations required in oncology practice during the pandemic. The research was conducted at the Unit of Thoracic Oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Mexico City, and the contact information for further inquiries is provided.
