Pdf Summary
This study examined the preferences of patients and physicians for maintenance treatment in advanced/metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (a/mNSCLC) after first-line (1L) therapy. It aimed to quantify the impact of various treatment attributes on these preferences using a discrete choice experiment (DCE). The study involved surveys with patients and physicians from the UK and US, gathering data on preferences related to treatment attributes like overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), the chance of new brain metastasis (BM), and adverse events (AEs) such as neutropenia, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting.

Key findings include differences in priority given to treatment attributes between patients and physicians. Patients prioritized the chance of new BM, OS, and risk of severe neutropenia as their top concerns, while physicians ranked OS, chance of new BM, and PFS as most important. This highlights a discrepancy in focus, with patients more concerned about certain side effects than physicians, who placed greater emphasis on efficacy measures like PFS.

The study used a targeted literature review and qualitative interviews to refine the list of attributes for the survey, followed by quantitative analysis using choice cards to evaluate preferences. Results indicated that OS and the chance of new BM were the most important attributes for both groups, albeit in different orders. The study emphasizes the need for shared decision-making in treatment planning to account for these differing priorities, aiming for enhanced patient satisfaction and outcomes in oncology care.

Funded by GSK, this research underscores the necessity of considering both patient and physician perspectives in treatment selection and calls for further studies to explore real-world impact on prescribing patterns for a/mNSCLC treatments.
