Pdf Summary
The International Pregnancy and Lung Cancer Registry, established at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with collaboration from Harvard Medical School and the University of Colorado School of Medicine, addresses the growing number of cases where women are diagnosed with lung cancer (LC) during pregnancy or become pregnant during LC treatment. This first-of-its-kind international registry is designed to gather comprehensive data on maternal and fetal outcomes, treatment modalities, and LC characteristics in affected women to establish optimal care guidelines for this unique patient population.

The methods involve inviting both clinicians and patients to submit cases via the REDCap database. The data collection spans initial diagnosis through 12 months post-delivery, including retrospective data from Dana-Farber and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Initial findings from the registry, based on data from 22 women, indicate that most are diagnosed with stage IV LC, predominantly adenocarcinoma, and possess actionable biomarkers. The ages of the women primarily range from 31 to 34 years. Despite this data, treatment approaches vary significantly, displaying a lack of consistent therapeutic guidelines for managing pregnant patients with LC.

The registry also highlights some pregnancy and delivery complications among the participants. These include early gestational ages, low APGAR scores, low birth weight, the necessity for NICU admissions, and some birth defects such as respiratory and gastrointestinal issues.

In conclusion, the PLC Registry seeks to establish empirical guidelines to inform treatment decisions and assess outcomes for pregnant women with lung cancer. Through this registry, the aim is to understand better the efficacy of therapies and the nature of LC within this specific patient demographic, ultimately striving to improve the care provided to these patients.
