The study focuses on evaluating multidisciplinary team (MDT) care and biomarker testing in early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) across global geographies. The study identifies 195 papers and 16 guidelines, with 90 papers and all guidelines included. The literature mainly consists of retrospective cohort analyses and emphasizes regional or single-clinic evaluations of MDT care.<br /><br />MDT care is recommended in early-stage NSCLC by guidelines from seven out of the eleven countries studied. It has been associated with better survival outcomes, including higher rates of active treatment, improved adherence to guidelines, increased utilization of surgery and chemotherapy, better overall survival, and shorter time from diagnosis to treatment.<br /><br />Key themes in literature include time from diagnosis to treatment, patient outcomes, and the composition, logistics, and economic impact of MDTs. A knowledge gap exists in identifying the ideal candidates for MDT care and understanding how access and outcomes vary by patient characteristics and disease stage.<br /><br />Biomarker testing timing affects treatment decisions; however, more than half of the national guidelines do not reference early-stage testing. There are also differences in access to and types of testing.<br /><br />The study, sponsored by AstraZeneca, aims to fill evidence gaps by assessing access to MDT care and its impact on treatment selection through future phases involving physician interviews and surveys across global geographies. Despite existing clinical guidelines recommending MDT care and biomarker testing, there is a lack of studies evaluating these practices comprehensively on a global scale.
