The outcomes revealed significant prognostic differences among these groups.<br /><br />Key results indicated that patients with metastases in the peripheral N1 lymph nodes (stations 12-14) had notably better survival rates. The 5-year OS and DFS for the pN1(12-14) group were 91% and 85% respectively, significantly outperforming the pN1(10-11) and pN2a1 groups, whose 5-year OS and DFS ranged from 25% to 41%. Univariate analysis confirmed that pN1(12-14) involvement is an independent good prognostic factor for both OS and DFS.<br /><br />The study concludes that involvement of lymph node stations 12-14 is associated with better survival outcomes, emphasizing the need for tailored treatment strategies based on lymph node location in NSCLC. This finding suggests the potential reevaluation of N1 descriptors in lung cancer staging to optimize patient management.
