Pdf Summary
The study conducted at a private cancer center in Brazil explores the role of Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) in managing lung cancer care. With lung cancer treatments becoming increasingly complex, the study aims to assess the profiles and outcomes of APN care for these patients.

Spanning from 2022 to 2023, this cross-sectional study involved 95 patients suffering from lung cancer. It examined clinical and epidemiological variables, including actionable mutations, therapeutic practices, and interventions for adverse events (AE) by APNs. The study provided descriptive data on the frequency and management of AEs classified according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE).

Key findings indicate that adverse events of any degree occurred in 70% of the patients, yet severe (G3) adverse events and hospital admissions were notably low compared to existing literature. This suggests the efficacy of APNs in managing patient care in an outpatient setting, with only 4% of patients requiring hospital admission.

APNs play an essential role in guiding patient care throughout the treatment journey, participating at all stages of the therapeutic process. They are crucial for the early detection of toxicities and coordinating management and intervention strategies. Their involvement provides personalized care which can lead to better health outcomes for patients.

The research underscores the importance of continued support and integration of APNs in cancer care settings, advocating for their comprehensive patient management approach, which facilitates improved therapeutic results and patient satisfaction.

This study supports the growing recognition of APNs and suggests that their specialized involvement in lung cancer treatment is beneficial, with recommendations to encourage personalized and interdisciplinary care practices.
