Pdf Summary
The INSPIRE Project, led by researchers at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) in Switzerland, aims to enhance the communication between cancer patients and healthcare providers by addressing gaps in clinical information exchange. Recognizing the crucial role of effective communication in healthcare, particularly in oncology, the project builds on findings from the Swiss Cancer Patient Experiences (SCAPE) study, which highlighted the need for improved information and support for cancer patients.

Following SCAPE, the "Hospitality We Care" program was initiated to improve services at CHUV, including the development of a mobile app meant to provide comprehensive information to patients. However, there remains untapped potential for the app to offer more personalized guidance tailored to individual patients’ needs.

The INSPIRE Project seeks to develop personalized clinical information supports detailing treatment plans, medication details, administration routines, side effects, and emergency protocols. This information will be accessible through the mobile app to improve patient understanding, reduce anxiety, and enhance communication with healthcare providers. It also aims to exemplify patient-centered care and support informed decision-making.

The project will conduct a qualitative analysis involving focus groups and semi-directed interviews with patients to understand their specific informational needs. Based on these insights and a thorough literature review, resources will be developed in collaboration with oncologists, nurses, and communication experts. These resources will be available digitally and in print and integrated into medical and nursing consultations as well as serve educational purposes.

Ultimately, INSPIRE aims to share its approaches broadly within Switzerland, fostering similar improvements in patient satisfaction and care quality in other healthcare institutions.
