Pdf Summary
This study addresses the significant challenge in China where a high percentage (64.7%) of lung cancer patients are diagnosed at advanced stages (stage III or IV), contrasting with a low survival rate of 5.27%. It explores the demand and challenges associated with Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) consultations for these patients. The study highlights opportunities to enhance MDT consultations, which can ultimately improve prognosis and quality of life for patients with advanced-stage lung cancer.

Current MDTs have limitations due to their fixed schedules that may not align with the rapid progression of patients' conditions. The research suggests that enhancing MDT efficiency through better resource allocation, fostering cross-hospital collaborations, employing digital tools, and promoting molecular testing can address these issues. Creating roles such as nurse navigators could also optimize physician time and improve patient experiences.

The findings also indicate a need for psychological support, given the mental health challenges faced by patients at advanced stages. MDTs must move towards addressing mental health to improve quality of life. There is also a necessity for junior physician training to manage MDTs effectively.

Additionally, molecular testing remains underleveraged. Solutions proposed include improving test accuracy, making testing more affordable, and ensuring correct testing methods, which can provide better-targeted therapeutic options. There is also a push for integrating cross-hospital MDTs and including specialties like pathology and cardiology to address complex cases.

Overall, by adapting MDT formats and integrating psychological, financial, and molecular considerations, patient care for advanced-stage lung cancer can become more responsive and effective, addressing the rapid progression and complex needs of patients.
