Back to course
Pdf Summary
The document discusses the challenges faced by regional primary hospitals in diagnosing and treating lung cancer, primarily due to limited medical resources and expertise, which negatively impacts patient outcomes. To address this, the use of Virtual Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) consultations is proposed as a solution. These virtual consultations aim to share medical resources more effectively, improve the level of lung cancer diagnosis and treatment, and enhance patient care, especially for those in rural areas.

The project behind these virtual MDT consultations has three main objectives: assessing the effectiveness of inter-hospital MDTs, evaluating their educational value, and extracting replicable experiences for broader application. This initiative involves a collaborative effort among various hospitals and medical institutions in China, utilizing an AI-facilitated MDT management tool, the iMDT digital platform. The process begins with onboarding leading hospitals, followed by primary hospitals, and involves patient selection, medical record uploading, and MDT request submission.

Results from this initiative indicate high levels of satisfaction among healthcare professionals and patients. Specifically, 98% of patients were satisfied with the MDT recommendations, and 90% noted positive treatment outcomes and improvements in quality of life. Healthcare professionals also reported enhanced learning.

The implementation of digital platforms has led to efficiency improvements, such as significant time savings for physicians, reduced manual dependency, and better management of information. The document concludes that while the Virtual MDT model has proven effective and beneficial, further innovative strategies are needed to continue improving the comprehensive MDT capabilities in lung cancer care.
