Video Summary
Dr. Tahir Abu Hijleh, a thoracic oncologist, presented a clinical case highlighting the use of circulating tumor DNA or liquid biopsy in non-small cell lung cancer. A late 50s heavy smoker was diagnosed with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer after presenting with chest pain and a cough. Subsequent treatments were ineffective, confirming a diagnosis shift to SMARC A4 deficient undifferentiated tumor. Liquid biopsy provided a fast alternative to tissue-based testing, confirming this rare diagnosis while excluding actionable mutations. Despite treatments, the aggressive cancer led to the patient's passing. Future presentations will explore the role of liquid biopsy in the MENA region.
