Among these eligible patients, the mean age was 62.5 years, 61.8% were male, 57.9% had a family history of cancer, and 100% were either current or former smokers. Many eligible patients were also due for other cancer screenings such as colorectal, breast, and cervical.<br /><br />The lung cancer screening uptake rate among eligible patients at the center was remarkably high at 88.2%, far exceeding national averages. Most eligible patients completed their recommended lung cancer screening, often in combination with other cancer screenings.<br /><br />The authors conclude that this multifaceted comprehensive cancer screening center model substantially increased lung cancer screening uptake. This approach may represent an effective new strategy to improve screening participation for multiple cancer types simultaneously, facilitating earlier detection and potentially improved outcomes.<br /><br />In summary, the comprehensive screening center model implemented at Inova demonstrates promise in addressing low lung cancer screening rates through integrated, patient-centered services.
