P1.17.75 Realizing Digital Transformation in Health: Findings From the TRANSITION Project
Back to course
Pdf Summary
The TRANSiTION Project, funded by the European Commission, aims to advance digital transformation in cancer care by enhancing digital health literacy among oncology healthcare professionals (HCPs) and health managers. Recognizing that these professionals require varied digital skills to design, develop, and implement digital solutions effectively, the project supports the EU Beating Cancer Plan through tailored up-skilling and reskilling programs across specialties and professions. Initially targeting 14 European Union member states, the training was later opened globally and has engaged 2,000 participants from over 53 countries.

The program’s impact was evaluated using the CIPP Model (Context, Input, Process, Product), assessing participants before and after training through instruments measuring learning objectives, online readiness, technology acceptance, and usability. Results showed statistically significant improvements (p ≤ 0.05), with especially strong effects (p ≤ 0.001) on participants’ ability to introduce and use digital solutions across clinical cancer care pathways.

The findings highlight the urgent need for comprehensive digital skills training for oncology professionals globally, addressing challenges such as increasing healthcare demand, workforce shortages, and funding constraints. Successful digital transformation in healthcare depends on adequately prepared personnel who can drive and sustain implementation.

The TRANSiTION Project’s training program, designed to reflect HCPs’ and health managers’ needs and preferences, demonstrates that comprehensive digital skills development can substantially enhance cancer care delivery across the disease continuum. The study advocates for policy, clinical, research, and educational commitments to further increase oncology workforce preparedness for digital transformation, ultimately improving healthcare quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
