P3.16.15 Giving Back - Co-Creation of Data Dashboard to Share Survey Results With Patients and Caregivers
Back to course
Pdf Summary
This study focuses on giving back to lung cancer patients and caregivers by co-creating an interactive data dashboard that shares survey results from people living with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with an EGFR mutation. Typically, research results are disseminated through academic venues that are not easily accessible or engaging for participants and the patient community. To address this, the Project PRIORITY team collected survey data from 425 individuals with EGFRm NSCLC between 2019-2020 and collaboratively developed an interactive dashboard alongside patients, caregivers, and a developer.

The dashboard allows users to explore a wide range of questions using filters, such as comfort levels in discussing symptoms with doctors and perceptions of support system understanding. Before launch, 39 patients and caregivers tested the dashboard's usability: 72% found the content relevant, and 83% correctly used filters to answer questions about the data, demonstrating good usability. However, some users found the dashboard overwhelming, indicating the need for enhanced storytelling and alternative visual methods to engage a broader audience.

The project highlights a model of co-creation and direct dissemination of research findings to the community, improving accessibility and relevance for patients and caregivers. Future research aims to refine the dashboard by incorporating mixed methods storytelling and varied visuals to improve user engagement. This approach exemplifies a shift from traditional academic dissemination toward more participant-centered sharing of research outcomes, honoring the contributions of those who provide valuable data. The team expresses gratitude to the patients and caregivers who made this collaborative work possible.
