Learn about the importance of the role of the thoracic oncologist in providing smoking cessation support to patients with lung cancer. Review data on how continued smoking after a cancer diagnosis leads to poorer treatment outcomes, increased complications, reduced overall survival and poorer quality of life, and understand that many patients with cancer are unaware of the benefits of quitting smoking. Explore opportunities to intervene on smoking cessation accross cancer care.
