Pdf Summary
This study investigated the association between angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and the risk of lung cancer, specifically focusing on ACEI-induced cough as a potential risk factor. The researchers used a technique called Mendelian randomization (MR) to analyze the relationship between ACE inhibition, genetic proxies for ACEI-induced cough, and the risk of lung cancer.

The study found a positive correlation between ACE inhibition and small cell lung cancer in Europeans. Additionally, ACEI-induced cough was found to be associated with a higher risk of lung cancer in Europeans, specifically lung adenocarcinoma. However, this association was not observed in Asians.

The findings suggest that there is a relationship between ACE inhibition and the development of lung cancer, with ACEI-induced cough being a significant risk factor in Europeans. The researchers recommend that patients with hypertension who experience dry cough as a side effect of ACEI use should consider switching to an alternative antihypertensive treatment.

Overall, this research provides further insight into the potential risks associated with ACEIs and lung cancer, highlighting the importance of considering individual factors when making treatment decisions.
