Lung cancer is a leading cause of death globally, including in Indonesia. It is divided into two main types: small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with NSCLC being more prevalent. Risk factors for lung cancer include smoking, exposure to carcinogens, air pollution, age, gender, lung disease history, family history, and diet. <br /><br />This study aimed to establish the correlation between gender, smoking history, age, and body mass index (BMI) with different histopathological types of NSCLC. The study utilized a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The data was collected from medical records of NSCLC patients who underwent first-line chemotherapy at a hospital in Lampung from 2018 to 2021. A total of 106 samples were included.<br /><br />The majority of the patients were aged 50 years or older, male, had a lower BMI, had a history of smoking, and had adenocarcinoma. The bivariate analysis showed that gender and smoking history were significantly correlated with different histopathological types, while age and BMI did not show a significant correlation. The multivariate analysis revealed that gender was the most influential risk factor, with males being more at risk for developing certain histopathological types of NSCLC.<br /><br />In conclusion, this study found a significant correlation between gender and smoking history with different histopathological types of NSCLC. However, age and BMI did not show a significant correlation. These findings highlight the importance of considering gender and smoking history when assessing the risk of developing specific types of NSCLC. Further research is needed to explore the underlying mechanisms behind these correlations and develop targeted prevention and treatment strategies.
