Pdf Summary
The abstract describes a lung cancer screening study called Singapore Lung Cancer Screening through Integrating CT with Other Biomarkers (SOLSTICE). The study aims to evaluate the feasibility of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening in Singapore's at-risk populations. The majority of lung cancer patients in Singapore are diagnosed in the advanced stage, making early detection crucial.

The study will include both smokers and non-smokers aged 55 to 74 years with a family history of lung cancer up to the 2nd degree. The goal is to recruit 650 non-smokers and 350 smokers as a pilot study, with plans to expand to a total of 4900 participants. LDCT scan results will be classified using the Lung-RADS classification system.

The primary outcome measures of the study are the diagnostic accuracy of LDCT at baseline and compliance with LDCT screenings during the surveillance period. The study will collect detailed information on participant demographics, smoking history, exposure to environmental factors, family history of lung cancer, history of tuberculosis, and comorbidities. Blood samples will be collected at each LDCT and biopsy visit.

Lung cancer diagnosis and details such as staging and histology will be obtained from the Singapore Cancer Registry. Survival outcomes, including date and cause of death, will be obtained from the Singapore Registry of Deaths. The study began enrollment in January 2023 and is planned to continue for two years.

The abstract highlights the importance of lung cancer screening and the need for tailored approaches in the Asian population, where there are differences in lung cancer epidemiology, such as a higher proportion of female non-smokers. The study aims to address the unmet clinical needs in Asia regarding high-risk populations, screening intervals, and management of screen-detected lung nodules.
