Pdf Summary
The Singapore Lung Cancer Screening Through Integrating CT with other biomarkers (SOLSTICE) study is a single-arm lung cancer screening trial in Singapore. Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, often diagnosed in advanced stages. The study aims to evaluate the feasibility of using low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening in the local at-risk populations of Singapore.

The trial plans to recruit 650 non-smoking and 350 smoking individuals in the pilot phase, with a goal of expanding to a total of 4,900 participants. LDCT scans will be classified using the Lung-RADS classification system, which takes into account the appearance and size of lung nodules. Blood samples will be collected during LDCT and biopsy visits.

Lung cancer diagnoses and details will be obtained through linkages with the Singapore Cancer Registry, and survival outcomes will be obtained through linkages with the Singapore Registry of Deaths. The trial aims to assess the diagnostic accuracy of LDCT at baseline and the compliance with LDCT screenings for patients with different Lung-RADS classifications.

The eligibility criteria for participants include being between 50 to 80 years old, having a smoking history of 30 pack-years or more, being a non-smoker with a family history of lung cancer, and having quit smoking for at least 15 years. The primary objective of the study is to determine the feasibility of conducting LDCT lung cancer screening in at-risk populations.

This study is the first lung cancer screening trial in Singapore and addresses the clinical unmet needs in lung cancer screening in Asia, where there is a higher proportion of never-smoker lung cancer cases compared to the West. The findings from this study could provide valuable insights into the appropriate screening intervals and optimal management of screen-detected lung nodules for the Asian population.
