Pdf Summary
This study aimed to investigate the clinical significance of MECA-79-positive tumor cells in patients with pathological stage IA invasive adenocarcinoma of the lung. The study included 195 patients who underwent complete resection with lobectomy for stage IA lung adenocarcinoma. The association between various patient characteristics and recurrence-free survival was assessed using multivariate Cox proportional hazards model. The expression of MECA-79 in lung adenocarcinoma cell lines was also evaluated.

The results showed that 9.7% of the patients experienced postoperative recurrence. Patients with MECA-79-positive tumor cells had worse 5-year recurrence-free survival compared to those without MECA-79-positive cells. The presence of MECA-79-positive tumor cells, spread through air spaces, and age were identified as independent risk factors for recurrence-free survival. Furthermore, the expression of MECA-79 was detected in PC-9 cell lines but not in A549 cell lines.

Based on these findings, it was concluded that the presence of MECA-79-positive tumor cells may be associated with postoperative recurrence in patients with resected stage IA lung adenocarcinoma. The study highlights the importance of considering MECA-79 expression as a potential prognostic biomarker in this patient population. This research was previously presented at the 102nd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.
