Pdf Summary
This case report discusses the long-term efficacy of Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) therapy in a 58-year-old female with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The patient underwent TTFields therapy alongside atezolizumab as a second-line treatment after progressing on platinum-based chemotherapy as part of the LUNAR TRIAL. After three months of treatment, the patient experienced a significant reduction in tumor size and an improvement in quality of life. The patient continued TTFields therapy for 29 months and had a partial response to the disease according to RECIST criteria.
During the treatment, the patient experienced skin irritation, but it was well-managed with a skin barrier cream and topical glucocorticoids. Although the skin lesions limited the patient's TTFields usage, the therapy did not have to be discontinued due to side effects. The report emphasizes that proper management of skin toxicities is crucial for maintaining treatment efficacy.
The findings suggest that TTFields therapy combined with immunotherapy may be a promising long-term treatment option for NSCLC patients who have failed prior therapies. This case report is also significant as it is the first to demonstrate a long-term response with appropriate management of skin toxicity. However, the results of the larger LUNAR TRIAL are still pending.
