Pdf Summary
Immunotherapy is an effective treatment for lung cancer, but fatigue is a common side effect that is often underdiagnosed. This study aimed to assess patient-reported fatigue and improve patients' quality of life. Over an 8-month period, 31 patients undergoing immunotherapy were evaluated using the Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI) before each treatment cycle. The mean BFI score was higher in patients who had symptoms of fatigue recorded in their medical files, but the differences were not statistically significant. Interestingly, when comparing the BFI scores with medical records, it was found that fatigue was underreported in most cases. The use of the BFI questionnaire was considered beneficial as it helped identify and stratify fatigue better than medical records. Therefore, it is recommended to standardize the assessment of fatigue using patient-reported outcome measures in lung cancer patients. The study acknowledges its limitation in terms of a small sample size and suggests further long-term prospective studies to validate the results. Overall, this study highlights the importance of monitoring patient-reported symptoms and implementing strategies to improve the management of fatigue in patients undergoing immunotherapy for lung cancer.
