Pdf Summary
The study presented in this document assesses the Multidisciplinary Onco-thoracic Consultation Meeting (MDT) of the University Hospital Center of Tangier. With the advancements in thoracic oncology and the emergence of new entities such as oligometastatic disease and oligo-progression, it has become essential to discuss therapeutic strategies within a multidisciplinary setting. The study aims to evaluate the quality of the onco-thoracic MDT and identify areas for improvement.

The research was conducted retrospectively, analyzing files presented during the onco-thoracic MDT and the general MDT for cases related to primary lung cancer or pulmonary metastases. The study period spanned from October 2020 to March 2023.

Out of the 100 files that met the inclusion criteria, 94 were used for analysis. Adenocarcinomas were the most prevalent histology among primary lung cancer cases. The main reasons for presentation at the MDT were radiological review and therapeutic decision strategy. The requesting services were predominantly medical oncology, radiotherapy, and thoracic surgery. The specialties requested for consultation were radiology and thoracic surgery.

Regarding the assessment of the disease, pulmonary nodules were categorized as metastatic, non-metastatic, or requiring additional examinations. For 13% of patients, the staging assessment had to be renewed. After the MDT, 28% of patients were downstaged from metastatic to non-metastatic. The suggested treatments included chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy. The therapeutic strategy was decided for 65% of patients, while 35% required further examinations. The decision was applied to 74% of patients, with an average application time of 11 days. The decision was consistent with international recommendations in 84% of cases.

In conclusion, the general MDT met most quality criteria, but efforts should be made to improve the patient circuit and care coordination in thoracic oncology.
