Pdf Summary
The Dusty Joy Foundation (LiveLung), a nonprofit organization in the USA, has recognized the need for an educational small cell lung cancer (SCLC) group. With support from various grants, they have established virtual group meetings specifically for SCLC patients. The meetings, facilitated by a long-time SCLC survivor, Montessa Lee, began in June 2022 and have seen an increase in participation since then. Each monthly meeting has an average of 50 registrants from around the world, including both patients and caregivers. The meetings are recorded and uploaded to the LiveLung YouTube channel for those who couldn't attend. Along with the meetings, participants receive a monthly newsletter and a "Hope Tote" filled with educational resources and tools for managing their condition. Attendees from the US also receive a food credit for Grubhub. The meetings feature expert speakers in the field of SCLC, allowing participants to personally engage with them and ask questions. The speakers are from renowned institutions such as Sunnybrook Research Institute and Duke Cancer Institute. In addition to the virtual meetings, the Dusty Joy Foundation also hosted a focus group and an in-person summit for SCLC patients and caregivers. The summit, held in April 2023, featured presentations from experts in the field. The foundation plans to continue the monthly meetings, hold another summit in 2024, and expand in-person meetings for SCLC patients and caregivers. The program has received positive feedback from participants who have found support, resources, and hope through the group meetings.
