Pdf Summary
A study conducted at Puerta de Hierro-Majadahonda University Hospital in Spain aimed to assess the quality of care for patients with stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The study used data mining techniques to build metrics for evaluating the quality of care provided. The researchers analyzed data from 160 patients treated at the hospital between 2016 and 2020.

The study found that 90% of the patients received treatment with curative intent, such as surgery or radiotherapy. Furthermore, 81.3% of the patients received multimodal treatment, indicating a high adherence to clinical guidelines. The median time between diagnosis and first treatment was 26 days. The researchers also assessed process indicators, such as the proportion of therapeutic strategies used and the time between treatment modalities. Outcome indicators, including time to treatment failure (TTF) and overall survival (OS), were also analyzed.

The results showed that patients with stage IIIA had a median TTF of 19.1 months and an OS that was not reached. Patients with stages IIIB and IIIC had a median TTF of 12.9 and 10.8 months, respectively, and an OS of 27 and 36.5 months. Survival rates at different time points were also reported.

The study concludes that the quality of care provided to patients with stage III NSCLC at Puerta de Hierro-Majadahonda University Hospital is generally high, with a high adherence to clinical guidelines. The researchers successfully used data from electronic health records to build process and outcome indicators. These metrics can facilitate quality improvement policies and provide valuable insights for evaluating care processes.
