Pdf Summary
A study was conducted at Dr. (H.C) Ir. Soekarno Hospital in Bangka, Indonesia to determine the survival rate of lung cancer patients who did not receive any type of treatment. The study analyzed medical record data from 74 cases of lung cancer from January 2018 to December 2021. The data included patient demographics, disease stage, performance status, pathology, smoking status, and reasons for going untreated.

The study found that the majority of untreated patients were male (73%) and had a median age of 64 years. Smoking was reported in 72% of untreated patients. The most common disease stage among untreated patients was stage IV (82%), and the most common pathology was adenocarcinoma (68%).

The overall survival of untreated lung cancer patients in the study was 47 days, significantly shorter than the median overall survival of 163 days for treated patients. The study also found significant differences in survival based on disease staging, performance status, type of pathology, and reasons for going untreated. Patients with advanced disease stage, poor performance status, non-adenocarcinoma pathology, and medical reasons for not receiving treatment had worse survival outcomes.

The majority of untreated patients reported medical reasons (52%) for not receiving treatment, such as poor performance or medical complications. Non-medical reasons (48%), including financial problems or patient and family rejection of standard therapy, were also cited as barriers to treatment.

In conclusion, the study suggests that not receiving standard therapy is a negative prognostic factor for lung cancer patients. The survival rate of untreated lung cancer patients was significantly lower than that of treated patients, emphasizing the importance of timely and appropriate treatment for better outcomes.
