Pdf Summary
In this study, the researchers aimed to assess the potential relationship between liver function biomarkers and the risk of lung cancer, and to develop and validate a lung cancer risk prediction model incorporating these biomarkers. They analyzed data from a large-scale biobank and found that circulating levels of certain liver function biomarkers were associated with lung cancer risk. Specifically, levels of albumin (ALB), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and total bilirubin (TBIL) were negatively associated with lung cancer risk, while alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), and total protein (TP) were positively related.

Based on these findings, the researchers developed and validated a prediction model for lung cancer risk that incorporated these liver function biomarkers. The model showed good discrimination and calibration in both the training and validation sets, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.836 and 0.832, respectively.

The study also highlighted the clinical relevance and value of biomarkers in large-scale biobanks for evaluating disease risk. However, the specific mechanism by which liver function biomarkers affect lung cancer risk requires further exploration.

The researchers concluded that liver function biomarkers have significant value in predicting lung cancer risk and that applying the developed model to new populations for external validation would be a meaningful next step.

Overall, this study provides evidence for the potential utility of liver function biomarkers in predicting the risk of lung cancer and highlights the importance of further research in this area.
