Pdf Summary
A study called CHIC (Clonal Hematopoiesis In lung Cancer) was conducted to explore the presence of clonal hematopoiesis (CH) in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). CH refers to the presence of DNA mutations in hematopoietic cells, which can potentially cause clonal expansion. The study included 190 patients with advanced NSCLC who were evaluated for the presence of CH mutations using a targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel. It was found that 35% of the patients had at least one CH mutation.

The study found that patients carrying CH clones were generally older compared to those without CH mutations. However, there was no significant difference in overall survival (OS) between patients with detectable CH clones and those without CH mutations. The study analyzed various prognostic and predictive factors and adjusted for them in a multivariate analysis, but no statistically significant relationship between the presence of CH and OS was found.

The CH mutations identified in the study were primarily in epigenetic modifiers and DNA damage response genes. Further analysis is ongoing to evaluate if CH has specific molecular traits in patients with NSCLC that differ from the general population and its relationship with the molecular characteristics of the tumor.

Overall, the study highlights the high prevalence of CH in a large cohort of patients with advanced NSCLC. However, it did not show a significant impact on overall survival in this patient population. The study suggests that further research is needed to fully understand the potential prognostic impact of CH in NSCLC and its relationship with other tumor characteristics.
