P1.28. Dose-Response Relationship Between Radiotherapy and Loss in Lung Perfusion Determined From DECT and PET/CT in NSCLC - PDF(Slides)

This study aimed to determine whether dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) can be used as an alternative to positron tomography emission (PET) to measure the loss in lung perfusion caused by radiotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). <br /><br />The researchers compared dose-response curves (DRCs) calculated from PET/CT and DECT images of patients receiving radiotherapy for NSCLC. The study included 19 patients who underwent imaging sessions at 3 months and 12 months after treatment. <br /><br />The results showed that the DRCs determined from DECT were equivalent to those determined from PET/CT at both time points. DECT accurately quantified the radiation damage to the perfused lung, with similar percentages of loss in lung perfusion observed in both imaging modalities at 3 months (7.6% / 10Gy in PET vs 7.5% / 10Gy in DECT) and 12 months (8.6% / 10Gy in PET vs 8.7% / 10Gy in DECT) post-treatment. <br /><br />These findings suggest that DECT can be used to measure the loss in lung perfusion caused by radiotherapy in NSCLC, providing a less technically demanding alternative to PET/CT. This is particularly relevant as PET/CT may not be widely available in all healthcare settings. <br /><br />Overall, this study demonstrates the feasibility and equivalence of using DECT to assess the dose-response relationship in NSCLC patients and provides important insights for future research in this field.
