Pdf Summary
The DREAM study is a prospective registry trial that aims to evaluate the outcomes of bilateral lung transplantation for medically refractory cancers confined to the lungs. The study focuses on two cohorts: primary lung cancers (such as non-small cell lung cancers) and metastatic cancers to the lung only (such as germ cell tumors or colorectal tumors). The goal of the study is to enroll 75 participants over a 10-year period, with recruitment taking place within the first 5 years. So far, 10 participants have been recruited. The study will monitor overall survival, disease-free survival, allograft rejection, and allograft survival, as well as investigate molecular and genetic biomarkers for prognosis correlation. The trial is approved by the Northwestern University Institutional Review Board and has a clinical trial registry number. The study will involve non-sequential double lung transplantation using an in-house technique to minimize intraoperative seeding. Figurative examples of bilateral lung-confined cancer and a diagram of double lung transplantation are provided in the abstract. Researchers involved in the study can be contacted for further information.
