Pdf Summary
This research study aimed to determine the best cut-off point for the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) in a Mexican population with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The 6MWT is a submaximal evaluation that measures a patient's capacity to perform physical activity. Lung cancer is a major health issue in Mexico, with high mortality rates. This study analyzed clinical records of 74 NSCLC patients who had undergone the 6MWT between 2016 and 2019.

The results showed that 48 (65%) of the patients were male, with a mean age of 54.6. Most of the patients were at clinical-stage IV. The analysis revealed that body mass index (BMI) and meters walked during the 6MWT were significant factors in predicting overall survival (OS), according to multivariate hazard ratio analysis.

The researchers identified a cut-off point of 402 meters in the 6MWT, below which patients had a median survival of 40.50 months. This group also showed lower values in Product Distance Saturation (PDS), speed, and work. These findings suggest that the 6MWT can provide improved prognostic information for NSCLC patients with higher BMI who are able to walk more than 402 meters.

The study concluded that the cut-off point of 402 meters showed promising results for OS and hazard ratio. This information can help healthcare professionals better assess the status and treatment of patients with NSCLC. However, further investigation is needed to validate these findings.

Overall, this research highlights the importance of the 6MWT in evaluating NSCLC patients and provides initial evidence for the use of a cut-off point of 402 meters in the Mexican population.
