Pdf Summary
This study analyzed data from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) registry to investigate the incidence and survival outcomes of lung cancer in double lung transplant (DLT) recipients, as well as the association between lung cancer and graft rejection (GR). Among 21,582 DLT recipients, 0.81% developed post-transplant lung cancer (PTLC), and 0.06% had both PTLC and GR. The median overall survival (OS) for PTLC was 46 months with a 5-year OS rate of 41.14%. PTLC was associated with higher odds of death and significantly predicted mortality. The study also found that older age, female sex, and AB blood type were significant risk factors for PTLC. However, there was no association between PTLC and GR. The study highlights the higher incidence of lung cancer in DLT recipients compared to the general population and suggests that PTLC individuals have a higher 5-year OS rate than those with de novo lung cancer. Overall, the findings provide valuable insights into the incidence and survival outcomes of lung cancer in DLT recipients and identify potential risk factors for PTLC.
